Kin Privacy Policy

Effective date:

This policy applies only to Kin for iOS and Kin email support. It does not cover other Intriguing Ideas products or general use of the Intriguing Ideas website. Intriguing Ideas, LLC ("Intriguing Ideas," "we," or "us") publishes Kin.

Your notebook stays on your device

Intriguing Ideas, LLC cannot access the information you store in Kin. Kin stores that information locally on your device and does not send it to us.

Kin is a personal notebook for remembering people and their family relationships. It has no in-app accounts, company-operated notebook server, or notebook synchronization service. We have no remote access to your Kin notebook. Information you choose to email to support is handled separately, as explained below.

Information stored and used by Kin

Depending on what you enter, your notebook can contain names, family relationships, notes, birthdays or estimated ages and their reference dates, avatar selections, and photos for friends and partners. Kin also creates identifiers to keep its records organized. It uses this information on your device to display and search your notebook, link related people, and calculate ages and estimated school grades.

You decide what to save. Please respect other people's privacy and include only information appropriate for your personal notebook.

Optional contact and photo imports

You can enter information manually. If you choose to import a contact, Apple's contact picker lets you select a contact. Kin copies only the selected contact's first and last names and available thumbnail photo into a friend or partner draft. You can review the draft before saving. Kin does not import the contact's phone numbers, email addresses, or contact identifier, and it does not copy your whole address book.

An imported contact is a one-time copy. Kin does not maintain a link to the original contact or monitor later changes in Contacts.

If you choose a photo through Apple's photo picker, Kin creates a resized copy for the selected friend or partner. It does not retain the original photo's embedded GPS metadata in that saved copy. A photo's visible content may still reveal a location. Kin does not modify the original photo in your library.

Device backups and deletion

Depending on your device settings, ordinary iOS or computer backups may include your Kin notebook. These backups are separate from Kin; they do not give Intriguing Ideas access to your notebook. Apple and your chosen backup arrangements govern those copies.

You can edit and delete records in Kin. Deleting a friend also deletes that friend's associated partners and children. Deleting a partner leaves the children in your notebook and removes their link to that partner. You can also delete an individual child record or remove a saved photo.

Edits and deletions in Kin do not erase copies in older device backups. Kin does not provide an undo, secure-erasure, or backup-purging feature. Manage backups through the relevant device or backup service controls.

Email support

If you email [email protected], Intriguing Ideas receives your email address, any sender name, the contents of your message, any attachments, and ordinary email delivery information. We use this information to respond to your request, troubleshoot issues, and keep a record of our support correspondence. Emailing us does not give us access to your notebook.

Fastmail Pty Ltd hosts our support mailbox. Within Intriguing Ideas, only our employees have mailbox access. Fastmail and its service providers process support messages to provide and protect the email service, as described in Fastmail's privacy policy: https://www.fastmail.com/policies/privacy/.

We retain support emails indefinitely, with no scheduled deletion period. You may contact us to request deletion as described under Privacy questions and requests below. We may disclose support information when required by law or valid legal process.

Please send only what is necessary to explain your issue. Do not send your notebook, children's personal details, or other sensitive information. If a screenshot is useful, remove or obscure real names, photos, birthdays, and other private details first.

Advertising and analytics

Kin does not contain advertising, tracking, or analytics SDKs. It does not sell your notebook information or share it for advertising. Apple may separately process information when you use its platform services, such as the App Store, device diagnostics, or backups, under your settings and Apple's privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.

Adults and information about children

Kin is intended for adults in the United States and is not directed to children. Adults may choose to store information about children in their local notebook. That information stays subject to the same local-storage and no-company-access practices described above.

Security

Kin relies on the protections provided by iOS for its local app storage. Protect your device and backups with appropriate security settings and keep your software up to date. Access to our support mailbox within Intriguing Ideas is limited to employees. No device, email service, or storage method can be guaranteed completely secure.

Privacy questions and requests

Contact Intriguing Ideas, LLC at [email protected] with privacy questions or requests about support information we hold, including requests to access, correct, or delete it. We review requests and respond as required by applicable law; the rights available may depend on where you live. We may need information to verify your request.

Because we cannot access your Kin notebook, we cannot retrieve, change, or delete its contents for you. Use Kin's controls on your device and manage backup copies separately.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Kin or our information practices change. The updated policy will show a new effective date.
